Clean Perfume Q&A - Everything You Wanted To Know About Perfume

What is Clean Perfume?

There's no official regulation of the term "Clean perfume" or "natural perfume". It means different things to different companies. To us, it means non-toxic, so no ingredients in our perfumes will harm your health, animals or the planet. We don't have any of the harmful chemicals used in regular perfumes that are considered endocrine disruptors, so your hormones won't be on a crazy rollercoaster that will cause you health issues that you can't pinpoint the cause of. Our no list is here:

No phthalates | No mineral oils | No petrolatums | No siloxanes | No parabens | No ethanolamines | No PEGs/BHA/BHT/DEA | No SLES/sulphates | No nitro musks | No polycyclic musks | No PFAS chemicals

What's so bad about regular perfume?

Those harmful chemicals can cause a bunch of different reactions in your body, they are cumulative because they are what scientists refer to as "persistent" so they don't break down, in your body or the environment. Phthalates and harmful synthetic musks can cause hormone disruption which can result in anything from mood swings, weight gain, headaches to more serious issues like hindering development in unborn male foetuses, auto-immune diseases, and other chronic illnesses.

How do I make my Clean Perfume last longer?

We don't use phthalates or synthetic musks (because - read above!), and they are generally the chemicals that make a perfume stick to your skin :(

If your perfume is lasting longer than 24 hours it's likely quite toxic!

Our perfumes last approx 8 hours on most people, more if you spray on your clothes.

If they don't last that long, it's likely your nose playing tricks on you - too many sprays and your brain gets overstimulated and stops smelling. Spray too close to your nose (on neck or behind ears) and your brain gets overstimulated and stops smelling. Your sense of smell is sensitive.

Test one perfume on your wrist, wave arm around to dry it, and don't go nuts spraying all over your body.

Layer with a matching body + hair oil to make it last longer!

Where should I keep my Clean Perfume?

Always keep any perfume in a cool, dry area - no bathrooms - and out of direct sunlight. Perfume should last 12 months, so use it! This goes for any perfume, regular, clean and natural, or otherwise!

Where should I look out for perfume that may cause health havoc?

We started a perfume brand because it's the first product people should change when switching over to a non-toxic lifestyle, but fragrance is found everywhere - cleansers, moisturisers, body lotions, body scrubs, body wash, hand wash, eye cream, shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion, lip balm, cleaning products, laundry detergent ... literally EVERYTHING. Don't just stop at perfume, we're on this journey with you.
